FROM THE ROOTS
Behold a
sower went forth to sow: and when he sowed,
Some
seeds fell by the way side.
Some fell upon stony
places…
And some fell among the thorns…
But others fell into
good ground, and brought forth fruit…
Born in the hills of
Hanover Jamaica, Benjamin Dyett Reid was a
miracle from birth. He was raised with on a
solid foundation and a consciousness of his
roots. In 1998 the concept for Wall Street was
brought forth. Benjamin began promoting shows
on the island of Jamaica, after journeying to
the US in hopes of furthering his vision. After
years of schooling in International Business, he
began climbing the corporate ladder. He finally
landed a job working at the Wall Street Trade
Market. He Benjamin was affectionately called
“Wall Street” by his friends and his vision
continued to grow. After years working with
stock exchange he decided that he wanted to
invest in something more valuable. He wanted to
invest in the community.
He moved to Philadelphia in 2000 and bought a run down junk yard and decided
that this was where he would plant the seed. He spent years cleaning,
preparing and cultivating the yard in which his dreams would grow to fruition.
He continued to invest in his community by creating a place where people could
be uplifted, a place friends and neighbors could come and relax with the family.
The seed grew and grew and Benjamin started working on building an onsite
restaurant. He also opened a small store on one of the property’s store fronts.
As more family, neighbors, friends began attending events and joining in the
many projects at the site, Wall Street was blooming. The flower which struggled
so hard to blossom finally burst forth. Benjamin’s dream began to bring forth
fruits: the shop, the restaurant, the yard, the beginnings of an education
center, the Arts, entertainment, community, family. Working together,
growing together as a fruitful vine. A fruitful vine grown from one small seed.
One small seed sown into good ground by a man who had great vision, Benjamin
Dyett Reid.
